CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League new boys Arenel Movers have dismissed word that all is not well in their camp, saying they were up to date with regards to paying their players’ salaries.
Last year, when the club was playing in the Zifa Southern Region Division One, they defied all odds despite facing financial challenges that saw their players go for months without getting their salaries. The players were constantly receiving winning bonuses.
“We are in the Premier Soccer League to compete and just like any other club, we have been taking care of our players. It’s not true that we owe them. We don’t owe anyone anything. We are up to date with regard to paying our players their salaries. Yes, salaries might be delayed but for now, we are up to date,” said Arenel Movers administrator Juma Phiri.
With a reliable partner in Genesis Sport, the future looks bright for Arenel Movers. The team is under the guidance of shrewd mentor, Farai Tawachera and they have so far posted one win, three draws and one defeat in the five games they have played so far.
The club boasts of several veteran players that include combative Moses Jackson, speedy Timothy January, goalkeeper Aaron Ngwenya and ex-Talen Vision striker Grey Kufandada, among others.
However, the club’s technical department has reportedly decided to release seasoned midfielder Simon Munawa, amid revelations that there was a time the player failed to turn up for training sessions.
Phiri said owing to personal problems that Munawa, a former Highlanders and Chicken Inn midfielder, has been having and his long absence from training, prompted club coaches to let him go.
In their previous fixture, the Sweet Boys beat Bikita Minerals 2-1 at Luveve Stadium. It was Arenel Movers’ first win of the season. The sweets makers’ two goals came off the boots of Brian Ngwenya and second half substitute Johane Sibanda. Dennis Nhongo scored Bikita Minerals’ only goal.
On Sunday, Tawachera’s charges will welcome former champions FC Platinum at Luveve Stadium.
