We are hosting a bigger and better show: Kiki

although she was not at liberty to disclose details of their preparations so far, they were set to host a glamorous show this year.

“This year we have resolved that we do not want to talk to the Press, it is very damaging, you will hear from us when we are done with the preparations. But I want to tell all those that are saying we have failed the nation that this year’s event would be bigger and better,” said the 88-year-old former beauty.

She said the provincial finals would be held in a few weeks time but could not disclose the date.

“Very soon the provincial finals would take place, but as I said we are not revealing the date to the Press,” she said.

A source close to the Trust said Divaris and her team had invited provincial licence holders for an emergency meeting on Saturday to finalise on when the preliminaries would start.

The Miss Zimbabwe pageant which is traditionally held in February annually has been delayed this year due to financial problems.

The provincial finals which are often held in December have not yet been done and scouting for models has not yet taken place in the country’s 10 provinces.

Since last year, the Miss Zimbabwe Trust has been dogged with financial constraints and its woes seem to have crossed over to 2013 and so far there has been no sign that the pageant would take place.

A delay in the hosting of the pageant means that Miss Zimbabwe would have                          insufficient time to prepare for the Miss World competition.

Some modelling critics say the problem lies with the organisers of the pageant as they have noted that  Divaris is no longer the suave co-ordinator she used to be, and no longer possesses the energy that she had years back.

Some have even suggested that the simplest solution would be for her to hand over the running of the pageant to someone younger, with the same passion and commitment.

But alas, Divaris has remained adamant that she still has the energy and zeal to run the pageant and insisted that she was so “passionate” about it.

Despite the accusations, it seems the main setback to the pageant is lack of funding which raises more questions as to why the previous sponsors have taken the back seat.

The mushrooming of multiple beauty pageants has also been labelled as one of the reasons why the corporate sector has turned a blind eye on the once glamorous and lucrative pageant.

The poor management at the Miss Zim Trust is said to have turned off aspiring beautiful models and as such “quality” models have decided not to take part in the country’s biggest pageant.

Fans will just have to wait with bated breath on what Kiki and her team would dish out to the nation as they have promised a much bigger and better event.
