We can handle the pressure

LONDON. – Antonio Conte backed his Chelsea stars to hold their nerve in the English Premier League soccer title race after they restored their 10-point lead. Chelsea dashed the hopes of the chasing pack praying for a slip up by hitting back at West Ham on Monday night after seeing their lead slashed to seven points. And Blues boss Conte said: “I listen to the other coaches of the other teams, and they trust (themselves) to win.

“It’s important for us to know the others have this ambition to keep this anger and will to fight and stay on top of the league. For sure it won’t be easy, we know this. But I trust my players because they are showing me great commitment not only in games, but during the week: in every training session.

“Great will to work and improve our work. I trust them. Absolutely.

“I must have confidence in them. Until now, we are deserving to stay on top of the table. And now that we stay, it’s important to continue to keep this position.

“This period [when they need to be mentally tough] has started.

“It was not easy, to play after your opponents and know they won, so if you drop points you give hope to your opponents in the chase.

“But we played under good pressure, and our answer was very good. I’m very pleased for my players.”

Goals in either half from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa, before Manuel Lanzini’s late consolation, maintained Chelsea’s march towards the title.

Winger Hazard said: “We want to win the trophy as soon as possible and bring it back to Stamford Bridge.”

But West Ham boss Bilic warned: “No [the title race is not over]. This is the Premier League. There are enough points available if they slip. Every game will be difficult for them. It’s not an easy ride.’’ – The Mirror.
