THE fight against criminals cannot be done by police officers on their own but it needs communities to play their part in the battle.
Officer Commanding Harare, Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru, told guests, at an event to celebrate the appointment of Commissioner Nathaniel Madzivanyika as board chairperson of the Sports Commission, the community has a big role to play in the fight against crime.
Comm Chikunguru hailed Comm Madzivanyika for working tirelessly as chairperson of Harare Crime Liaison Committee (CLC) in reducing crime rates in the province.
He said Comm Madzivanyika’s dynamic leadership of the CLC in Harare has demonstrated an unshakable hatred for crime and an inspiring love for those who work tirelessly to combat it.
“Crime prevention must be a shared responsibility; it cannot rest on the shoulders of the police alone.
“As we celebrate him today, let us also celebrate the spirit of togetherness that binds us all.
“May this occasion remain a joyful and truly memorable one for every person gathered here, a reminder that dedication, service, and unity are always rewarded,” said Comm Chikunguru.
He added:
“As the Officer Commanding Police Harare Province, I must also acknowledge Dr Madzivanyika’s invaluable contributions to our fight against crime.
“His commitment has strengthened our collective resolve.
“Let me take this moment to reaffirm our unwavering stance against crime and all those who perpetrate it.
“To those who threaten the safety and security of our people, we say firmly: there will be no tolerance.”
He commended the efforts being shown by the community through the Christian Community Police Network, Police Junior Call, Business Against Crime Forum under CLC in combating crime.
“Today we celebrate, not only the gift of life as Dr Madzivanyika received another year, but also his outstanding achievements and enduring service to our community.
“We believe this promotion to national office is a divine reward for Commissioner Madzivanyika’s dedication, entrusting him with the opportunity to serve our nation more broadly through sport and recreation.
“We have no doubt that he will excel in his new role and leave a lasting legacy in Zimbabwe’s sporting fraternity.
Comm Madzivanyika said:
