AS calls for President Mnangagwa to remain in office till 2030 continue to increase across the country, VaPostori for Economic Development (VED) has added its voice, in full support of the Constitution Amendment Bill 3, which, among other issues, seeks to extend the Presidential term by two years.
VED chairman Madzibaba Moses recently appealed to their members from the Murehwa district chapter to continue supporting and praying for President Mnangagwa and the nation.
“As VED, we are proud of our members in the VaPostori for Economic Development for what they did during the just-ended public hearings on Constitution Amendment Bill Number 3,” he said while addressing the members.
“We attended the sessions in our numbers as a way of supporting the proposed amendments. We are supporting the amendments, including the one to extend President Mnangagwa’s term to 2030, simply because we have seen the great developmental works that the President is doing.
“We have witnessed dams and roads being constructed, people’s livelihoods are being transformed, something which was not even there before.
“So as VED, we are strongly supporting the amendment so that President Mnangagwa will complete all the projects that he started, which are good for the people of Zimbabwe. Even our church is being recognised. Our church is being empowered.”
In attendance was ZANU PF Member of Parliament for Murehwa West constituency, Cde Farai Jere, who commended VED for the support.
Cde Jere said that it is prudent that President Mnangagwa remain in office until 2030, arguing that all the developments which have been embarked on should be completed.
He said ever since the President took office, the nation has witnessed massive developments which have resulted in the transformation of people’s livelihoods.
“Firstly, let me thank VED for strongly supporting the bill amendment especially during the just concluded public hearings. You attended the hearings in large numbers, and that alone shows that you are rallying behind the amendment, and for that I thank you.
“Let me tell you why we are saying President Mnangagwa should be in office beyond 2028. President Mnangagwa, our Visionary leader, has championed development in a way that has never been witnessed in Zimbabwe, and we see development everywhere.
“Here in Murehwa, we have one of the biggest dams being constructed, which is key to development in the whole district,” he said.
“Kunzvi dam is now at 70 percent in terms of completion. Water from that dam will be used for agricultural activities and other programmes aimed at uplifting people’s lives in Murehwa.
“We have seen clinics and schools being built closer to the people. In all sectors, there is transformation. It is no longer business as usual in Zimbabwe, there is development everywhere and people are happy and this is why we are saying President Mnangawgwa’s term should be extended.”
Cde Jere said President Mnangagwa wants more resources to be channelled to development.
“Elections require a lot of resources, which should be channelled to development. So as a nation we need more time to develop, not to channel resources on elections, which is why as a constituency, we are going to have a lot of developmental programmes going forward.”
Currently, the Presidential term is pegged at five years.
However, ZANU PF is seeking to increase that term by two more years, arguing that a five-year term is not enough to do meaningful development in Zimbabwe.
During ZANU PF conferences held in Bulawayo and Manicaland Provinces, the ruling party adopted the resolution to allow President Mnangagwa to remain in office till 2030, and now the process to implement that resolution is being done, with public hearings by Parliament now complete.
Thousands across the country attended the public hearings, where the majority supported the amendments.
