President Mnangagwa has assured war veterans that his administration will not abandon them, pledging continued support through empowerment programmes, land ownership initiatives and improved welfare schemes.

Addressing the Zanu PF War Veterans National Assembly at the party headquarters this afternoon, President Mnangagwa said the liberation war fighters remain central to the country’s development agenda and the preservation of Zimbabwe’s sovereignty.

He said war veterans are custodians of the country’s liberation values and called for greater unity and discipline within the ruling party.

“Your bravery and courage during the protracted struggle forms the solid foundation upon which we stand at home today,” said President Mnangagwa.

He added that veterans had endured colonial oppression, imprisonment, detention and torture in pursuit of independence.

The President said the party’s revolutionary heritage must continue to be passed on to future generations.

He emphasised that war veterans play an important role in national development and safeguarding Zimbabwe’s independence.

“As war veterans, we all have a role to play in ongoing national development.

“We are a listening Government. We will never neglect the liberties of the citizenry,” he said.

President Mnangagwa announced additional empowerment interventions, including expanding the War Veterans and Family Empowerment Fund, supporting productive land use, establishing specialised care centres, promoting entrepreneurship training and facilitating access to affordable financing.

He reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to veterans’ welfare, including support for widows and children of liberation fighters.

President Mnangagwa also urged war veterans to reject neo-colonialism and remain visible in mobilising support for the ruling party ahead of future national programmes.
