UNITED Kingdom-based Zimbabwean budding squash player, Ryan Gwidzima will remain at Wycliffe College after some sponsors paid for his first term fees at the prestigious school.
Gwidzima has been at Wycliffe since the end of August where he is furthering his studies while at the same time playing squash.
However, his stay at the college which has produced some of the best squash players in the world was in danger of being cut short when the Ryan Gwidzima Trust struggled to transfer money from Zimbabwe to the UK.
Chairman of the Trust Promise Ncube said the 12-year-old will remain in England as his first term fees had been settled by well wishers. Gwidzima is completing his primary education at Wycliffe and will then proceed to high school at the same institution.
“He is continuing at Wycliffe, some sponsors have paid the first term’s fees in full, we are very much relieved,’’ Ncube said.
The youngster has already made an impression since his arrival in England as he has already won two junior titles in October.
He first picked up the England Squash North West Junior Under-13 boys Championships and followed that up with conquest at the Hungarian Junior Open where he was again the Under-13 boys champion.
Before he went to England, Gwidzima was the winner of the Under-15 section at Africa Junior Squash Open in Cape Town, South Africa.
Gwidzima, who turns 13 this month, will head off to the United States of America to compete in the US Open Under-15 category.
Last year, the youngster took part in the US Open Junior Championship in New England where he was ranked 17 out of 94 in the Under-13 category and won the Plate.
