CHICKEN INN Football Club have not been quick off the blocks in the 2023 season but head coach Prince Matore is not a worried man.
Instead, the coach is confident they are on the right track in their mission to win their second league title.
The Gamecocks are in position seven on the log standings after four rounds of fixtures with six points from four games and trail leaders Caps United by four points.
At this stage last season, they had collected nine points with three wins and one defeat.
Asked if the three draws and one win this term is a concern in his side’s title charge, Matore’s answer was a confident No!
“We are taking each game as it comes and we are in the right direction. I have all the faith in the boys. I am certain they will deliver on the target. The way they are training shows they will deliver on the target,” said Matore.
He said the focus now was on the next game which is against Bulawayo Chiefs at Luveve Stadium on Sunday.
“What is important is to focus. It’s a difficult game but we have to make sure that we collect maximum points,” said Matore.
His side has not been lucky with injuries but this time around, the coach will have an almost full squad to choose from come Sunday.
Striker Clive Augusto, the defensive duo Vincent Moyo and Itai Mabunu as well as central midfielder Richard Hachiro, who have had troubles with injuries are all available for selection. Striker Munashe Pini is back in training but is not fit for selection.
The Gamecocks won their only league title in 2015 and since then, the expectation has always been high for Chicken Inn who have flattered to deceive since then.
Just last season, the Gamecocks started off brilliantly and were on top of the table for some time before they let the title slip away and finish as runner-up to FC Platinum.
They were bridesmaids again in 2019 and finished second after eventual league winners FC Platinum. – @innocentskizoe.
