It is true when they say that all good things come to an end. Well, the curtain comes down today as all fun activities, parties and teenage shows are scheduled to take place. Some of the activities lined up include Jibilika Dance Festival, Summer Slam, Harare Agricultural Show, back to school gigs, acoustic jazz teen show and the youth cultural festival among others.
“Schools are opening next week and I can’t believe it. I think today we are spoilt for choice and it’s all about fun. I will be making my way to the Zimbabwe College of Music for the Jibilika Festival. I love music and dance. I am happy that soon after that will attend the agricultural show for the last time while waiting for fireworks display,” said Cherise Masimba from Meyrick Park.
The biggest of them all is the Jibilika Dance Festival which will see more than 2 000 teenagers take part in theatrical, dance and other performances.
Just like United States dance show, Take It To The Streets, this year’s festival, runs under the theme, “Step up to HIV” will see 34 dance groups from across the country competing for honours.
Mbare dancehall outfit Street Madness won last year after beating more than 20 groups. Iky (9) was the boy of the moment as he showcased his well polished act, when he danced to Winky D’s “Haiite”.
This year, with no doubt many groups will dance Guspy Warrior’s “Seunononga”.
Let’s wait and see.
For agricultural show fanatics, not only the face paint, fancy toys and joyrides, but today it is all about the fireworks.
Fireworks play a major role at the agricultural show as everyone by 7pm tonight will love the moment.
“I can’t wait for fireworks as they lighten up the sky. To me fireworks describe agricultural show,” said 11-year-old Paul.
Talking of fashion statements, this is the last day school going children showcase the best trendy fashion and hairstyles.
“Yes, tomorrow we make way to the barber for a haircut because Mohawk hairstyles are a ‘no-no’ at school.
“I am even surprised by the hair-chalking that I am seeing at the Exhibition Park. Everyone wants to be Miley, Riri and JB, but don’t forget some of the trendy fashion is stage-wear,” noted Kasim Myala from Belvedere.
The party freaks are left with no option to attend the back to school gigs around the town.
As always stay away from alcohol remember what happened at the Cottco Rugby Festival, second term holiday. However, the Cool Team will be around checking upon you and hey Masvingo here we come.
It’s true when they say Masvingo has talent. Today, the Youth Cultural Festival comes alive with more than 15 school representatives from different provinces partaking.
The cultural festival will see teens demonstrating all different cultural dances from modern to contemporary.
“Expect to see versions of ‘Gangnam Style’ by Psy, ‘Personally’ by P-Square and ‘Grown Woman’ by Beyonce dance moves. I am also happy that my school is taking part and wish them best of lucky,” said Theresa from Evelyne High School.
