IMAGINE if our readers were COPS?
One thing, for sure, is that they would definitely have done things a bit different to the way real detectives did when they arrested a truck driver last week.
Tapson Ndou, 58, was arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of at least two tonnes of mbanje worth about US$210,800.
He was arrested at a truck stop in Southerton, Harare.
His arrest followed a tip-off indicating that a 30-tonne truck, carrying a large consignment of mbanje, entered Zimbabwe from South Africa. Ndou allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the contraband.
But, while this was a huge success story by the police in their operations to smash the syndicates moving and selling drugs in this country, our readers feel that if they were the cops, they would have done things differently in this case.
They feel they would have used Ndou as a bait to arrest the owners of this contraband.

Our readers feel that the real success story would have been the arrest of these men, and women, who are behind the syndicates which are at the heart of these drug smuggling operations.
The readers feel that as long as the masterminds are not arrested, they will keep moving the contraband and another driver, who is willing to take the risk, has been found and is probably already moving another two tonnes of mbanje.
Here are some of our readers’ views:
I think police must change the way they work, seyi vachimhanyira kuposter instead yeku escorter driver negoods rake to the destination under police guard and confiscate his cellphone angoita kunge zviri normal vobata kingpin unless if it is sign to alert the kingpin. — Mukanya E Wekwachinyani

Police must work on getting the source and the owner of these goods, I believe he is just a smuggler but where exactly where they destined for and originating from? Without that, a new smuggler will emerge again.— Divine Manganda

Simple, they know the owner and this is just a warning to him. As a professional detective, when you discover the drugs, don’t flag the vehicle or alert the driver but ingotora kamwe ka Honda Fit kotevera truck then monobata mhene. — Gamuchirai Muchemwa
