WHAT KIND OF A MAN CAN USE A KITCHEN KNIFE TO KILL WIFE AND HIS PREGNANT DAUGHTER? . . . Tragic incident shocks Kadoma, leaves city asking for answers

H-Metro Reporters

THE City of Kadoma is reeling from shock after a man allegedly used a kitchen knife to repeatedly stab and kill his daughter, who was nine months pregnant, before turning the weapon on his wife, who was stabbed on the neck.

The tragedy has left a mother and her expectant daughter dead and sent shockwaves across this mining and farming hub.

Obert Namurokosi, 45, was arrested at the weekend.

He is alleged to have used a kitchen knife as he butchered both his wife, Cynthia Namurokosi, 45, and pregnant daughter, Takudzwa Namurokosi, 23.

Sources say Obert was said to have accused Cynthia, a teacher in Karoi, of engaging in an extra-marital affair.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest of Obert and urged people to stop domestic violence and respect the sanctity of life.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of a Kadoma man in connection with two cases of murder which occurred on Sunday in Victory Park, Kadoma.

“The suspect allegedly had a domestic dispute with his wife who sought refuge at their daughter’s residence on Saturday.

“On the following day, the suspect reportedly followed her there, armed with a kitchen knife, and attacked both victims.

“He allegedly stabbed his daughter, who was nine months pregnant, multiple times before turning on his wife, whom he stabbed on the neck.

“Both victims succumbed to the injuries,” said Comm Nyathi.

The incident has shaken the city of Kadoma.

Our reporter in Kadoma, Lloyd Mwale, says the horror incident has left this city shaken in a way he has not seen before.

A Kadoma resident told H-Metro:

“It’s scary my brother, it’s something from a horror movie, something you never think you will come across but we are dealing with it right now as a community.

“You wonder what would have really happened for a human being to go this far and destroy his own blood, and the woman who gave him that child, in such a savage way.

“Everyone is wondering here and asking questions because we just can’t understand how someone can do that.

“Okay, let’s say he was having problems with his wife, which is normal in households, he should have resolved the issues with his wife and I’m not saying that he should have killed her.

“So, where does the daughter come in here and she has her own life and she was carrying another life and almost ready to deliver and it ends like this, I can tell you that this is the worst possible nightmare for a daughter.”

Kadoma has a reputation as a safe city but that appears to be changing of late and there have been some bizarre and tragic incidents.

FATHER CAUGHT HAVING SEX WITH SON’S WIFE, KILLS HIM WITH AN IRON BAR

In January, there was a shocking incident in Kadoma when a 78-year-old man allegedly killed his son who had caught him red-handed, in bed with his wife.

Benjamin Harry was accused of arming himself with an iron bar during a heated confrontation with his son, Kudakwashe Harry, 30, who had caught his father having sex with his wife.

The cruel father struck his son, resulting in his instant death.

This happened on January 6.

Following the tragic event, Benjamin was arrested along with several others, including his daughter-in-law, Evelyn Mashava, 22, Mike Hwata, 36, William Grasham, 34, Perfect Vembo, 18 and Tongai Mavhurume.

Their case was reported under case number Kadoma Rural 27/1/26.

There were some conflicting reports about the tragedy.

The first claim was that Kudakwashe got home and found his father, Benjamin, having sex with his wife, Evelyn.

A confrontation ensued before Benjamin allegedly struck his son with the iron bar, leading to his death on the spot.

Panicking after the incident, Benjamin allegedly sought the help of his daughter-in-law’s brothers to lift Kudakwashe’s body and hang it on a tree.

It is alleged that they dangled the body on a tree branch to create an impression of a suicide. Another version was that Perfect and William are ex-lovers of Evelyn and, on the day in question, they had a confrontation with the deceased, which ultimately contributed to Kudakwashe’s death.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Kudakwashe had suffered significant head trauma consistent with being struck by an iron bar. Evelyn’s statements further indicate that her brothers were involved in the conflict, allegedly trying to protect her from abuse by her husband.

THE MAN WHO DIED WHILE TRYING TO RELIEVE HIMSELF

In February, a man died at Kadoma General Hospital after he was stabbed while relieving himself at a bushy area near a high school.

John Nazaza was 42.

Family spokesperson, Leo Nazaza, said the deceased was attacked by two unidentified men while he was relieving himself in the bush near Munyaradzi High School.

They stole his cell phone.

“John developed a running stomach at around 7pm and said that he was going, as usual, to a nearby bush, just some metres away from the house, to relieve himself.

“The place, which is near Munyaradzi High School, is used by many people in Ward 3 because the toilets have been blocked for some time now. He had his small phone, which he had to use as a torch, and he passed through some tuckshops.

“Moments later, the family was notified that John was lying in a pool of blood and was badly injured.

‘‘Some family members rushed to the scene only to see John lying in a pool of blood but he was still alive.

“He said that two young men had attacked him when he was about to relieve himself and that they had stabbed him and robbed him off his small phone and they had run towards the railway line.”

He added:

“If our toilets were functioning well John would not have been attacked, he lost his life due to the lack of a functional toilet system along Makufa Street in Rimuka.”

Nazaza was laid to rest at Rimuka Cemetery.
