BEING under the spotlight is a dream for most women. Where style is concerned and when one says you have the looks; you feel on top of the world.
Back in my home town, Kitwe in Zambia, I have a friend called Mwamba Mwasa, who does not miss out on the latest fashion trends.
She is a big fan of internationally acclaimed label, Ginger Mary.
What she does really amazes me. Mwamba travels to South Africa and Namibia twice a month to buy new clothes by Ginger Mary.
She said she does not wear any other label apart from Ginger Mary from head to toe.
“I do not worry about how expensive the Ginger Mary clothing is because it is high quality and when I wear the label am always on the spotlight and commended by every person on the streets.”
Well, most ladies love wearing clothes with a name. I grew up in Kitwe wearing designer outfits every weekend. Ethnic influences featured strongly in the Ginger Mary collection and at the centre of it all is the heart-shaped Sankofa symbol.
Originating in Ghana, Sankofa’s direct translation is “go back and retrieve”. The symbol itself represents a mythical bird whose head faces backwards as it flies forward.
It reflects the importance of learning from the past and embodies Ginger Mary’s ethos of drawing from past experience to progress.
The Ginger Mary store theme is a fusion of modern and vintage: raw materials such as wooden blocks and sheet metal merge with glass panelling and stainless steel.
The colour palette pays homage to the brand, with shades of grey, brown and taupe providing the suitable backdrop to the merchandise.
Working in unison, the setting serves to increase the impact of the Ginger Mary merchandise.
The Ginger Mary collection comes to life in the attention-grabbing window displays that are part art installation and part fashion expression.
Themed backdrops accentuate the collection and whisk the viewer away on a fabulous fashion adventure.
As always, the fashion takes centre stage with an array of products showcasing the diversity of the current collection.
The Ginger Mary collection is bursting with colour, alive with texture, filled with interesting nuances and full of unexpected surprises.
Catchy slogans and Afro-chic references combine to provide a one of a kind fashion statement, while the colour palette celebrates the natural landscape, with rich reds, burnt orange and sunset yellow combining with chocolate browns and ochre.
Started in 2005 and designed by in-house design experts, this brand is a confident, vibrant and unique blend of global ethnic cultures from Africa, Mexico and Argentina.
The fashion is colourful — rich red, burnt orange, ochre, chocolate brown and sunset yellow.
Merchandise is complemented with a range of accessories, shoes and bags.
