When make up really unmakes you

I COULDN’T help but share this picture, which a colleague posted on his Facebook timeline a couple of weeks ago. The woman in the picture of course may not find it as funny as some of us do but . . . gosh if this is what women call adding a dab of facial powder on their faces, then they’ll rather not! It appears as if she got a handful of the sand in the background of the picture and slapped it on her face . . . and coupled it off with a “selfie”.

I am sure by now, most of those that follow this column, know my position on makeup. I don’t mind it, as long as I really can’t tell that you are wearing it.
Makeup consists of cosmetics such as lipstick or powder applied to the face, used to enhance or alter the appearance. It is not meant to make you look like a fool or clown. But then again, there are a lot of women that don’t understand the concept behind wearing makeup. If you are a makeup fanatic I suggest that before you make a purchase you consult with the person whom you buy it from. These people being cosmetic retailers or beauticians.

There are simple instructions on how to wear makeup and it is just a handful of people that know how to wear it. Ladies I do understand the need to make yourself look presentable and . . . let me use the word pretty for men to notice you. However, if you ridiculously and haphazardly wear it I am sorry to let you know that you will wind up being a topic of discussion in a bar full of intoxicated men, chucking jokes about you from all corners. Wear makeup to add class and not to make yourself look like a cheap can of night trash — you do get what I am trying to say out of my subtle word.

As I stated, if you decide or feel the need to wear makeup consult a retailer or beautician for tips on your skin type and colour.
Makeup may do magical things, but it doesn’t have to be a mystery. Applying a basic, natural look doesn’t require a lot of skill or tools. You can do lots of the blending with your fingertips, and choose to leave out certain products if they don’t appeal to you.

Anyway makeup has been used since time immemorial and has been used for different reasons, mostly to enhance one’s beauty.
In some instances makeup is used to cover-up blemishes, scars and many other skin related issues.

Still on the issue of makeup, ladies really should beware of the products they buy and where they buy it from. There are many fake products being sold on the streets and are very harmful to the skin. Makeup products should only be purchased in a shop such as a pharmacy or a beauty boutique, wherever else those intending on purchasing a kit really should be wary about it, unless you order it from a catalogue.

Some products may cause an allergic reaction to sensitive skin. If you know you have sensitive skin or simply want to be cautious, seek out makeup that is labelled with directions.
Don’t over-do your makeup. Start by mastering a neutral look and slowly work your way to more elaborate makeup if you wish.
With that said I among many other people hope to see a change in those that wear makeup.

Over the past couple of weeks or more, there has been a growing trend of people doing their hair in the streets, dreadlocks especially. I know that there are barbers that cut people’s hair under trees but I have never once come across someone doing their hair in the CBD in the streets? What’s going on there?

I know the city council are yet to crack their whip on them because this poses a serious health threat especially for those that have food outlets near these street hairdressers. I also know for a fact salon and beauty palour owners are not at all happy with this. Something seriously needs to be done before the city is run down.

Feedback:
Hi I’m Khanyisile. Got your number from the magazine, just thought you should know that I really love your articles, especially the one on tattoos.
What’s up Peter, I totally agree with you that tattoos may have bad effects on your body, it can symbolize Satanism or you can get a disease by using a needle that has been used on other clients. If you look at celebrities you can tell God is near. Dumisani Mpofu
Till next week let’s keep styling.
