Alick Macheso’s star dancer, Shame “Kariba” Chidewo, is set to miss action for an indefinite period after fracturing his ankle during a live performance.
Kariba’s absence from Orchestra Mberikwazvo shows has raised questions among fans, with the popular dancer having been sidelined for close to two months.
The uncertainty surrounding his absence has also fuelled speculation, with some fans claiming that the dancer had been dismissed from the group over alleged indiscipline.
However, Kariba has dismissed the claims, revealing that his absence is purely injury related.
Speaking to H-Metro, Kariba said he initially thought the injury was minor and spent considerable time recovering at home before seeking medical attention.
“I have been missing action for close to two months now after I was injured while on stage.
“At first, I thought it was a minor injury, so I spent much of the time at home resting.
“When I later visited a doctor, I was told it was bad and that I needed a plaster. I was also given an extensive physiotherapy programme,” said Kariba.
He dismissed claims that his absence was linked to indiscipline or any other form of foul play.
“As usual, people will always say a lot of stuff, but what I have told you is the reality,” he added.
Macheso’s publicist, Tich Makahamadze, confirmed that Kariba is injured and remains a member of Orchestra Mberikwazvo.
“Kariba is injured, and it is normal given the nature of his job. He is still part of the band, and we expect him to join us when he is back to full fitness,” said Makahamadze.
Kariba has established himself as an integral member of Mberikwazvo, earning plaudits from fans for his energetic and distinctive dance moves.
His absence has consequently been noticeable at the group’s recent performances.
