Who is Torerayi Moyo?

CDE TORERAYI MOYO is an educationist by training.

He was born on November 25, 1969. He attended Mutehwe Primary School from 1977 to 1984, before moving to Nembudziya Secondary School for Form 1 in 1985.

He then attended St Patrick’s Mission School between 1985 and 1988, and finally Tongogara High School between 1989 and 1990.

Cde Moyo then obtained a Diploma in Education from Gweru Teachers’ College in 1993.

He then studied for a BA Hons in Economic History at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) between 1999 and 2001.

He also holds a Master of Arts in History degree, having studied for it between 2002 and 2003.

Presently, he is finalising studying for a PhD in Humanities.

“I taught at Dalyn Mine Secondary from 1994 to 1995; Ngezi High School from 1995 to 2002; St Oswald’s Zimhindo High School from 2002 to 2003; Harare Polytechnic between 2004 and 2005 and then the University of Zimbabwe from 2005 to 2018,” he said.

He is married to Professor Stanzia Moyo, the dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences at UZ.

The two have three children — Dr Tarisiro Moyo; Tafadzwa Moyo, an accountant; and Tererai Moyo, an engineering student.

Cde Moyo also served as chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Education during the Ninth Parliament.

He is the current National Assembly representative for Gokwe-Chireya constituency.
