Why marriage is worth fighting for: Lessons from Madam Boss and Ngarande

SOCIAL media personality, “Madam Boss” (real name Tyra Chikocho), recently gave the nation a valuable lesson on marriage through a prank call that has sparked widespread conversation. During the call, she told her friend Jackie Ngarande that she was considering divorcing her husband, Ngoni Munetsiwa, because things were not going well and she felt overwhelmed.

“I’m thinking of leaving my marriage, things are not going well. I’m thinking of divorce. I’m failing to handle the pressure, it’s too much for me,” Madam Boss confided.

But Ngarande, a former model, socialite and philanthropist, known for her thoughtful advice that has seen her attract thousands of social media followers, seized the moment to offer Madam Boss guidance and support with wisdom and care.

“Marriage is teamwork. You have to work together. Your husband should do his part, you do your part and you meet halfway,” Ngarande said firmly. She asked Madam Boss, who was in America attending the BET Awards, to reflect on her own role in the marriage.

“Are you doing your part? If you think travelling to Los Angeles and mingling with celebrities has made you great, let me tell you something, it’s you who builds your home. It’s only you who can safeguard your home. There’s nothing ‘out there’.”

She went further, reflecting on a recent lecture she gave to single mothers, where she shared harsh truths about the loneliness and instability many face.

“I told them that as much as it may look fashionable to be a single mother, they’re tired of changing men. Children end up seeing different fathers daily. Don’t think there’s anything better out there, there’s nothing.

“Secondly, you’re an orphan, our brother (the late Sekuru Gudo) hasn’t even been buried a month and here you are talking about divorce. That is an abomination in our culture.”

She pressed on with her counsel, making Madam Boss aware of marriage’s blessings, including finding favour in God’s eyes.

“What has really bothered you? Where do you think you will go? If you have a husband, you have someone to take care of you. Marriage comes with a level of perseverance. There is grace that a married person has that a single mother doesn’t.”

“God gives a special anointing to someone with a husband that he does not give a single mother. Marriage brings security and protection, unlike someone unmarried, who has no one concerned about them.”

Jackie continued: “If you are married, you have accountability. You are asked where you are, what time you’ll be home and what you’re having for supper. Do you want to live a life without accountability? Without anyone checking on you?”

Jackie’s plea was clear: “Please persevere and see your children grow with both parents. There’s nothing better out there. If someone is promising you something new, it’s all fake. People change. Don’t listen to those misleading you, saying you are better because you mingle with celebrities.”

She reminded Madam Boss that the very brand (Madam Boss) that gave her access to those celebrities was built by her husband.

Jackie ended her heartfelt lecture with a call for prayer and commitment. “Marriage should be built and prayed for by the owner.”

The conversation resonated deeply with many social media users, sparking an outpouring of responses. Most admitted that the teaching revealed truths about marriage that they had not considered before.

“I’m 27, but I’ve learnt a lot about marriage. Single ladies, stop lying to us please,” wrote one.
“Jackie has a calling; she should be a marriage counsellor,” said another.

“It’s a prank, but we’ve been guided — thank you, Jackie,” added a third.
“I’m single but blessed and I control myself. Not all of us show children many men,” noted another follower.

“I learnt something. I was thinking of leaving my marriage, too, but after this, I’m reconsidering,” admitted one more.

“Jackie is a teacher; she makes sense,” said another.
This exchange, sparked by a simple prank, became a powerful reminder of the strength women can offer each other when they stand together, speak honestly and share wisdom born from experience.

In a society where discussions around marriage often get drowned in gossip or judgment, Jackie Ngarande’s words provided a refreshing perspective, one rooted in solidarity, responsibility and resilience.

This was a story about women supporting women, offering tough love and encouragement, and reminding each other of the power found not in fleeing, but in enduring and building together. Because sometimes, the best lessons are found in the conversations between sisters, honest, unfiltered and full of heart.
