Why the cell remains Zanu PF’s ultimate engine room

The countdown to the historic ZANU PF National Cell Day continues to gather momentum, with only a few days remaining before millions of party members across Zimbabwe converge in their respective cells on June 27, 2026 under the call “Munhu Wese KuCell Kwake”.

The National Cell Day will see the party’s grassroots structures — the backbone of the revolutionary movement — come alive with renewed energy, purpose and determination.

The event is more than just a gathering; it reaffirms the principle that the strength of ZANU PF lies among the people.

The cell remains the engine room of mobilisation, organisation and community engagement, serving as the first point of contact between the party and the citizens it serves.

Across provinces, districts, wards and branches, members are intensifying efforts to strengthen party structures, verify membership records, recruit new members and ensure that every cell is fully prepared for this landmark occasion. The programme continues to demonstrate ZANU PF’s unwavering commitment to grassroots participation and people-centred leadership.

The significance of the day is deeply rooted in the revolutionary values that have sustained the party throughout its history.

It is through strong cells that communities remain organised, united and empowered to contribute meaningfully to national development and economic transformation.

As Zimbabwe marches steadily towards the attainment of Vision 2030, National Cell Day provides an opportunity for every member to recommit to the ideals of unity, patriotism, development and service to the nation, under the leadership of the party’s First Secretary, President Mnangagwa. With each passing day, the revolutionary spirit grows stronger and the foundation continues to be reinforced.

Prepared

From urban centres to the most remote rural communities, preparations are now in the final stretch as members position themselves for one of the most important events on the party calendar. We held meetings with the provincial chairpersons and provincial political commissars of all our 10 provinces, notifying them of the very important task of mobilising all our cell members to participate in the National Cell/Village Day.

The intention of the initiative is that, on that day, all our cells must be verified. As you are aware, the party has been digitising its membership database.

On that day, we will present the recorded names of members, including those that may have experienced difficulties due to incorrect entries or errors, so that any inaccuracies can be identified and corrected.

The other reason we should meet is that the cell is the key foundational unit of this party.

As long as the cells are well structured, meet regularly and function effectively, the party as a whole becomes stronger.

This will also demonstrate our party’s strength and show how lively and active our party structures are. We also want to thank our members for the wonderful, massive support they have given to the campaign for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3. Their contributions, both orally and in writing, have been presented to Parliament.

Mobilisation

We are obviously looking for members on a daily basis, and we are also seeing a wave of people coming in to join the party.

So, we are looking for an unstoppable wave of support, and I am sure that is what we will witness in the days to come.

We are continuously seeking new members each day, and we are also observing an ongoing cycle of people joining ZANU PF after leaving the opposition. The setting up of branches and the district coordinating committee structures will happen after we have laid a solid foundation at cell level. It is only after that that we shall look at how these will be structured as they are higher level of executive organs of the party.

But right now, our concentration, our focus, is on the cell.

Party discipline

The recent abuse of social media platforms by some party members represents a demonstration that a number of our cadres may be missing the line — the ideological line and party line.

They are being driven more by personality cults — perhaps the love of money — and, as a result, are diverting from the core business of the party.

As a ruling party, certainly we are going to be educating them, warning them and those that do not take heed, definitely, we shall be taking some disciplinary measures.

We want a solid, united political party, driven by its principles and ideologies.

ZANU PF will not stand by and watch while the name of the party and its First Secretary is being dragged into mud by some rogue elements through the use of social media to score cheap politics.

On several occasions, President Mnangagwa has issued a stern warning against the misuse of social media, urging Zimbabweans to remain united and resist divisive narratives.

Relations with liberation movements

Our relationships with other sister liberation movements are excellent. We continue to exchange visits with all our five sister liberation movements — FRELIMO of Mozambique; Chama Cha Mapinduzi of Tanzania; African National Congress of South Africa; the South West Africa People’s Organisation of Namibia; and the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola. Recently, we were in Tanzania, where we met as we launched the Xi Jinping Research Centre.

So, our relations with all our neighbours and liberation movements are solid and we continue to grow from strength to strength.
