ACTION in the Mutare Pool League continues to thrill fans, with the season shaping up to be one of the most competitive and exciting in recent memory.
Log leaders, Why Why Pool Club, have set the pace, promising to continue their fine run as other teams scramble to catch up.
Why Why sits firmly at the top of the 20-team league, having won all four of their games and accumulating 12 points in the process.
Their latest match saw them put up a spirited performance against Snipers, defeating them 10–6 at their home ground in Raven along the Harare-Chimanimani Highway.
Soul City and Shovel and follow closely in second place, each with 10 points, while Navtech, Giants and Rozvi occupy fourth, fifth and sixth positions, all with nine points.
Teams like Pahukama, Superstars, Acid, Snipers, T-One, Galaxy and Mahoya have six points after two wins in four games, while Mandisa, Mutare City, Buffalo, Vacphone and Chikanga are yet to claim a victory.
Speaking on the team’s stellar performance, Why Why director, Shingirai Chahwanda, told Post Sport that the league’s improved high level of discipline and competition has made them eager to prove a point.
“Our focus this season is on building a strong, disciplined team, both on and off the table. We acquired talented players who bring energy, experience and strategy to every game. The wins so far are a reflection of their commitment and the unity within the squad. We are aware the competition is tough, but we are determined to maintain our top position, and give our supporters consistent excitement every weekend. Discipline, focus, and teamwork are our priorities, and the boys have embraced it fully,” he said.
The team’s current success has been aided by additions of Simbarashe Dodzo, Trust Mwakudza, Tadiwa Takura, Ricardo Neyo and Tadiwa Chapomwa.
The club has also strengthened its executive, appointing Tawanda ‘Zolex’ Muzondo as chief of protocol, ensuring off-table operations match the team’s high standards.
MPL League chairman, Harris Shoni, praised the overall quality and discipline being displayed this season.
“This season has been remarkable in terms of professionalism and commitment. Games are starting on time, ending within scheduled hours, and most teams are following the rules closely. The level of play has risen significantly, and players are demonstrating not just skill but maturity and sportsmanship. Their performance is commendable, and their structure and discipline set a standard for other teams to aspire to. We are excited by the competitive spirit across the league. Fans are enjoying tight matches, strategic play, and fair competition. The league is thriving, and it is encouraging to see players, coaches, and administrators all working together to raise the profile of pool in Mutare and beyond. It is a season to watch and support,” he said.
