Whyte praises Chitima

BOGWHEELERS boss Shaun Whyte says they were overwhelmed by the turnout at Donnybrook when the club hosted the fifth national motocross race meeting on Sunday.The race attracted 55 field riders, who were battling for national points, in all classes.

“It was a good meeting, racing was good throughout all the classes. We received a large crowd and we weren’t expecting that kind of support, so we were really overwhelmed.

“The only drawback was the heat. It was way too hot to be on a bike but the bikers really went all out to impress and they gave a great performance such that everyone had a good time,” said Whyte.

As expected, there was no competition for one of the country’s top riders Jayden Ashwell who won all races in the MX1 class while Reagan Wasmuth stole the show in the 85cc class.

“I would say young Chitima stole the show this weekend. Although he didn’t come first, he was constantly neck-to-neck with the best riders in the 65cc A class though he normally rides in the B class so we were all impressed

“He’s been crashing a lot in the past but this weekend everything was just coming together for him. He was the most improved rider by far,” said Whyte.

The day was almost ruined, though, when another top rider Mike Mawarire crashed in the final lap of the 125cc when his bike accelerator stuck.

“He was unlucky because while doing the finishing jump his accelerator stuck but he jumped off the bike mid-air because if he had landed with the bike he might have been seriously injured, but thankfully he was unharmed,” said Whyte.
