A PLUMTREE man has been fined $200 after he thrashed his wife with a stick for coming home late.

Methuseli Dube (32) of George Silundika Suburb first locked his wife, Ms Moreblessing Moyo (25), out of the house for an hour in the middle of the night after she arrived home at 10PM from the salon. Dube was convicted on his own plea of guilty to physical abuse by Plumtree magistrate, Mr Taurai Manwere.

He was ordered to pay a $200 fine or serve two months in prison in case of default.

Prosecuting, Mr Zorodzai Pengapenga said Dube assaulted his wife on September 10.

“On 10 September around 10PM, Ms Moyo returned home from a salon where she had gone to get her hair plaited. She found the door to the house locked and she knocked several times but her husband ignored her.

“Dube unlocked the door after an hour and confronted his wife on why she had returned home in the middle of the night,” said Mr Pengapenga.

He said Dube retrieved a wooden stick and struck his wife several times on the back. He also punched her several times all over the body.
