A 69-year-old Bulawayo man has been dragged to court by his wife for failing to pay maintenance for his minor child.
Sipho Ngulube of Emakhandeni suburb appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing a charge of failure to pay maintenance.

He was ordered to clear US$130 arrears or face a two month jail term. The magistrate had initially sentenced him to four months in prison but two months were suspended for three years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within that period.

The remaining two months were suspended on condition that the accused person clears the arrears of US$130 before January 2, 2026.
Prosecutor, Ms Cathrine Kuzu told the court that sometime in August this year, the accused person was dragged to court by his wife for failing to pay maintenance for his child.

The court heard that the accused person was ordered to pay US$100 on the 31st of every month for the upkeep of his one minor child.

In September, the court varied and reduced the amount to US$60 per month.
The accused person failed to pay, leading to arrears of US$130, and nothing has been paid so far, said Ms Kuzu.
