A MAN from Bulawayo who allegedly fatally stabbed his wife with a knife on Tuesday night at their home in Kensington following a domestic dispute, appeared in court yesterday.
Hillary Mudau (30) allegedly stabbed his wife, Queen Williams (29), after an argument degenerated into a push and shove fight, leading to the fatal stabbing.
Williams and Mudau have a child who turned four last Friday.
In court yesterday, Mudau was not asked to plead to a murder charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Mr Franklin Mkhwananzi.
Mr Mkhwananzi remanded him in custody to October 20 and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
When Mudau started to explain what happened on the fateful day, the magistrate stopped him saying he would have an opportunity to do so in court later.
“I did not arm myself with a weapon but my wife was the one who wanted to stab me,” he said before the magistrate cut him short.
Prosecuting, Mr Tawurayi Hondoyemoto said Mudau stabbed his wife once on the chest with a knife and she died on the spot.
He said Mudau had an argument with his wife on Tuesday night and he ended up stabbing her.
The murder weapon and blood stained clothes were recovered at the scene. A report was made at Hillside Police station leading to Mudau’s arrest.
A Chronicle news crew visited the suspect’s home on Thursday and relatives said Mudau’s parents were better placed to comment.
“What we know is that our daughter-in-law asked to attend her niece’s party last Friday and returned on Tuesday and died on the same night,” a relative said. — @MondelaC
