Wilmore Chimbetu boost for DeMbare

STILL basking in the memorable Harare Derby victory over CAPS United last Sunday, Dynamos could finally have utility player Wilmore Chimbetu in the fold for the visit of Triangle at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The highly-rated Chimbetu has been watching from the sidelines as the online registration system has been slow in clearing him.

Chimbetu is on a one-year loan from Harare side Herentals.

And his long-cherished dream of playing for Dynamos could finally come to fruition this week after the Dynamos administration resorted to restarting the registration all over again.

In fact, the process was expected to be completed last night.

Dynamos chairman Moses Maunganidze confirmed the club had to restart the process afresh.

“After encountering several problems with the system, we then decided to cancel everything. We did that and collected all the required papers.

“We did the process all over again and I can confirm that all is now under control. The registration of Wilmore Chimbetu is expected to be through this evening (yesterday),” said Maunganidze.

“It’s a huge plus for our vision as a club. What we intend to do as a club is to make sure the technical team have every human resource that they need to make their work easy.

“So making Wilmore Chimbetu available for the technical team is one of our major duties as the executive. We are very happy that finally, the technical team can have the player available for whatever they want to use him for.”

Chimbetu has been training hard in anticipation of the clearance and he will be hoping to start getting the minutes at the Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa-coached team.

The 25-year-old is usually deployed at right-back but also plays attack and midfielder with total comfort.

With right-back Emmanuel Jalai not at his best this season, Chimbetu could be handed a chance to play in that position.

Maruwa is a long-time admirer of Chimbetu whom he also wanted to sign during his time at Black Rhinos.

He said the coming in of Chimbetu will help him add depth in every position that he plays.

“Wilmore Chimbetu is an exceptional talent. He is capable of playing many positions and he gives us a lot of options as a team,” said Maruwa.

“Look, Chimbetu has played Premiership football for the past four seasons and he has always been one of the best players in the league.

“We always wanted to have him at Dynamos because he has a unique ingredient that we were looking for. And his clearance is a huge boost for our ambitions as a team.

“We are in a week when we are still celebrating beating CAPS United and the clearance of Chimbetu has just added to the joy.

“The ideal thing in football is to have all your players available. It’s better to have a selection headache than to have a headache because you don’t have enough other options at certain positions. So for me, as a coach, this is a very welcome development. I am very happy.”

Meanwhile, strikers Martin Ofori of Ghana and Evans Katema are still at Dynamos.

The pair failed to attract any interest from other teams and since Dynamos have running contracts with them, they decided to keep them.

Both have not been registered as they have been given a chance to prove themselves at training.

They could be registered in the mid-season window should they impress Maruwa.

The latter openly told club chefs he didn’t need the two upon his appointment as Tonderai Ndiraya’s replacement early this year.

Instead, he signed other strikers, including Nyasha Chintuli, Jayden Bakare and Elie Ilunga.

Only Bakare has opened his scoring account after netting the second goal in DeMbare’s 2-0 derby victory against CAPS United at the National Sports Stadium last Sunday.
