A PLUMTREE man will spend the next 20 years behind bars after he was convicted of breaking into an elderly woman’s home and raping her.
Thembinkosi Ncube (29) pounced on his 61-year-old victim on 9 April this year around 8PM in Mphoengs.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Ncube gained entry into the woman’s home through a window while she was asleep.
“The victim woke up and found the offender inside her home. He forcibly undressed her, ordered her to lie down, and raped her,” read the NPAZ statement.
During the terrifying ordeal, Ncube threatened to harm the woman if she dared to report the crime.
After the attack, he slipped out through the same window, leaving the grandmother shaken and traumatised.
The brave woman later reported the matter to the police, who immediately launched a manhunt that led to Ncube’s arrest.
“This case is a reminder that rape is a grave violation of human rights and dignity. Communities are urged to stand against sexual violence, support survivors, and report such crimes promptly to the police,” said the NPAZ.
The Plumtree Magistrates’ Court handed Ncube a 20-year jail term, sending a strong warning to would-be offenders.
