The highly anticipated Buddie Beatz Concert lived up to its billing on Sunday evening, delivering an electrifying showcase of Zimbabwean music that left thousands of fans at Baobab Primary School in Victoria Falls wanting more – and singing long after the final act.
Held after the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon, the concert drew a huge and vibrant crowd of over 5 000 fans keen to celebrate their physical marathon exertions with a well-earned evening of top-tier entertainment. The event, which was headlined by Zimdancehall music icon Winky D, blended energy, nostalgia and stellar performances that made for a fitting finale to one of Zimbabwe’s premier wellness and sporting weekends.
As expected, Winky D reaffirmed why he remains one of the country’s most celebrated entertainers.
From the moment he stepped onto the stage, the venue erupted into a giant singalong as fans enthusiastically joined him in performing some of his timeless classics. Treating the audience to a catalogue of yesteryear hits, the “Big Man” had thousands waving their hands in unison as music lovers of all ages relived songs that have become part of Zimbabwe’s musical heritage and folklore.
His commanding stage presence, natural rapport with the audience and hit-filled collection ensured the crowd remained on its feet throughout his performance. Every chorus was sung back – word for word – creating one of the defining moments of the night, and reinforcing his status as one of Zimbabwe’s greatest live performers.
Victoria Falls-based outfit Flying Bantu also delivered a memorable performance, thrilling the home crowd with their signature Afro-fusion sound. Their energetic stage presence and engaging delivery kept the momentum high and earned them enthusiastic applause from an appreciative audience.
Dancehall star Killer T maintained the evening’s high standards with a polished performance that had fans singing and dancing along. His confident stagecraft and impressive catalogue of hits demonstrated why he continues to rank among Zimbabwe’s most popular contemporary artists.
Keeping the atmosphere lively in between the live performances were DJs Sfiso, CeeJay and Chiweddar, who seamlessly mixed local favourites with international hits, ensuring there was never a lull in the entertainment.
Beyond the music, the concert underscored the continued impact of Econet’s Buddie Beatz platform in promoting Zimbabwean talent and creating memorable live entertainment experiences for audiences across the country.
