ZIM dancehall king Winky D, real name Wallace Chimuriko, will this month stage his first show in Bulawayo at the popular spot Hartsfield Tshisa Nyama – nearly six months after his last show in the city. Dubbed “Maproblems ese Disappear” 2016 Concert’ after his runaway hit song, Disappear, the show will be held on January 30.
Fans of the Gaffer, as Winky D is known, are expected to take the opportunity to shake off the “January disease” that has seen a lull on the city’s entertainment scene. The last time Winky D was in the city was during the Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo where he performed at the Large City Hall.
The Ninja president will be supported by Judgement Yard’s DJ Fleva and DJs Liz, Crazy Black, Djembe Monks’ Slimza and Noma That Girl. Up and coming local hip hop group, Prime Suspects, will wrap up the entertainment line up on the night. Revellers will part with $5 for ordinary tickets and $10 for VIP.
Winky D’s manager Jonathan Banda said the show was for his fans to enjoy as it was the first major one in the city. “The entertainment problems for his fans will disappear. We know that they’ve been eagerly waiting for him to perform and we promise to be at our usual best,” said Banda.
He said Winky D would be accompanied by his live band Vigilante and would celebrate his birthday with his Bulawayo fans. Winky D was born on February 1. After an action packed festive season that saw places like Club Eden, Tshisa Nyama and Queens Sports Club being the centre of attraction, there has been a break in activity which is synonymous after the period.
Last year the first major show in the city was Cassper Nyovest’s gig at the same venue where Winky D showed why he is rated the best dancehall artiste in the country and a living legend of the genre.
