A 63-YEAR-OLD woman from Nyamandlovu allegedly hanged herself over her husband’s extramarital affair. The body of Lembani Nyathi is now at a mortuary in Bulawayo where she is said to be bleeding from her private parts. Lembani allegedly hanged herself from the roof of her hut on Monday. Her in-laws said they suspected their daughter-in-law’s relatives could be responsible for the bleeding private parts as a way of punishing them for refusing to release household furniture, among other things.

A Chronicle news crew went to a house in Cowdray Park suburb where mourners are gathered and spoke to Lembani’s father-in-law, Garret Nyathi, who narrated the bizarre incident and the tension between the two families.

Nyathi said his daughter-in-law’s relatives boycotted the funeral demanding to take Lembani’s body as well as household furniture and marriage certificate.

“Our in-laws have boycotted the funeral proceedings. The brother in-law phoned asking us to bring the corpse, property and marriage certificate to Norton. We don’t know why they are boycotting the funeral because my son was legally married to their daughter,” said Garret.

Garret said his family was now living in fear following the strange happenings to Lembani’s private parts.

“I was at the mortuary this morning and NaPro (Lembani) is bleeding from her private parts. I don’t know whether our in-laws are suspecting that my son could have killed his wife. I have never seen a corpse bleed in my life.”

Lembani’s husband, Khiwa Nyathi, said he suspected his wife could have killed herself because of jealous after she learnt that he was dating another woman.

He said they had been experiencing arguments over the other woman.

“My wife and I have been having problems over my girlfriend. Last week she fought with my girlfriend and the matter was reported at Nyamandlovu Police Station. They were expected to appear in court today (yesterday). This was not to be as she decided to hang herself on Monday,” said Khiwa.

The Nyathi family said Lembani was expected to be buried on tomorrow at West Park Cementry.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Siphiwe Makonese could not be reached for comment as her mobile was unavailable.
