abortion and dumped the foetus in a toilet, before fleeing the scene.
Bulawayo Provincial spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo yesterday confirmed the incident, but could not shed more light.
“I can confirm that we are handling a case whereby a foetus was found in a toilet at the Bulawayo passport office,” said Insp Moyo.
Witnesses told Chronicle that the woman sneaked into the toilets where she is suspected to have induced abortion and then placed the foetus in a plastic bag before hiding it behind the toilet seat.
“When the cleaners got to the toilets moments after the incident they found the toilet floor stained with blood.
“Upon searching where the blood was coming from they found a plastic bag, which had a foetus inside,” said a witness, Mrs Alicia Tshuma.
She said the woman who dumped the foetus could not be located and it is suspected she fled the scene soon after the abortion.
The incident occurred at about 12.30 pm.
“It seems like the dumped foetus was discovered by the cleaners a few minutes after the incident and it became difficult for them to search for the culprit,” said Mrs Tshuma.
The foetus had not been removed by 1.15pm when the news crew got to the scene.
“They have not removed it at the moment and the toilets were immediately locked after the incident,” said another witness Mr Shelton Ndlovu.
He described the incident as an act of madness.
“I don’t understand how a normal person can do this. The woman who did this must be brought to book,” said Mr Ndlovu.
Officials at the passport office could not comment on the incident, referring questions to the police.
