A 45-YEAR-OLD woman from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo who was facing charges of stealing four motor vehicles has been acquitted by the court.
Ottilia Ncube was acquitted of all charges after a full trial before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza. The magistrate said the State failed to prove a prima facie case against Ncube.
Allegations against Ncube were that on 6 November 2023, together with the now-deceased Brokemore Tadiwanashe, they observed Isaac Kumalinga parking his vehicle at his home in Matshobane.
It was alleged that Ncube, along with the deceased, proceeded to the victim’s house. They used an unknown object to open the vehicle and drove off.
On 14 November 2023, Ncube, together with the deceased, was alleged to have stolen a Honda Fit outside a bakery in Belmont. On 20 November 2023, the duo was also alleged to have stolen another Honda Fit belonging to Joice Ndabazokufa at the intersection of 12th Avenue and Park Road.
It was also alleged that on 30 November 2023, the duo stole another Honda Fit parked at a local night club. They used an unknown object to open the car and drove off.
Ncube denied all the allegations which were being levelled against her and blamed the crimes on the deceased. Through her lawyer, she argued that none of the complainants had positively identified her as the perpetrator of the thefts.
