Woman arrested for conning residents

A Gweru woman has been arraigned before the courts facing 21 counts of fraud after she allegedly took chickens worth $13 000 from different people in and around the city promising to sell the birds on their behalf.Prined Zimbindi of Mkoba Village Six would allegedly sell the chickens and convert the money to her own use.

She pleaded not guilty to fraud when she appeared before magistrate Ms Sithembiso Ncube who remanded her in custody to Monday for continuation of trial.

For the State, Ms Helen Khosa told the court that between April and August this year, Zimbindi approached different people around Gweru who were running poultry projects.

Ms Khosa said Zimbindi would then take chickens from her victims on the understanding that she would sell them to institutions such as Midlands State University and Unki Mines.

Zimbindi would then sell the chickens and convert the money to her own use. The matter was later reported to the police leading to her arrest.

The value of the stolen chickens is $13 000 and nothing was recovered.
