WOMAN ARRESTED FOR CULTIVATING MBANJE

POLICE in Chimanimani have arrested a 37-year-old woman from Chiutani Village, under Chief Muusha, on allegations of cultivating dagga.

She was arrested on Tuesday.

Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the arrest of Martha Gatsi. Gatsi was nabbed by officers from ZRP Chipinge Urban, who were on patrol, following up on a theft case at the accused’s house. Ass-Insp Chinyoka said the police officers visited the suspect’s homestead as part of their investigations into the theft report.

During the follow-up proceedings, officers observed several marijuana plants growing in the accused’s field. After questioning, Gatsi allegedly admitted she planted the dagga plants for personal gain.Gatsi was immediately arrested and is expected to appear in court today facing charges of illegal cultivation of the mbanje plants.

Police recovered a total of 19 cannabis plants from the field, which were taken to Zimpost offices in Chimanimani, where they were measured and recorded.

The plants had an average height of 1.9 metres.

Ass-Insp Chinyoka said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
