A WOMAN from Bulawayo’s Gwabalanda suburb was slapped with an effective six month prison term for punching her landlady. Velile Ndlovu, 35, pleaded guilty to assault before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube. She beat up Betty Ndiweni over a missing blanket. Ndiweni told the court: “I asked her about my missing blanket and she started insulting me for no reason at all. And later she assaulted me with fists all over the face.”
Dube suspended three months from the initial nine months sentence she had given Ndlovu. “Three months are going to be suspended for the next five years on condition of good behaviour. You’ll serve an effective six months in prison,” said Dube.
Prosecuting, Kenneth Shava told the court that on April 4 at around 2PM Ndlovu and Ndiweni were at home together.
“A misunderstanding occurred when the complainant enquired about a missing blanket.
“Accused started shouting at the complainant. She assaulted complainant with clenched fists several times all over her face,” said Shava.
“Complainant sustained injuries on the face. She reported the matter to the police who carried out investigations which led to the arrest of the accused.”
