Woman axed for refusing marriage proposal

A JILTED lover last week allegedly axed to death a pregnant woman who had rejected his marriage proposal, police have confirmed.
The incident was reported in Sikunyane village under Chief Malisa in Nkayi district by the accused, Ndabenzihle Ncube’s cousin after receiving a phone call that he had killed his girlfriend for refusing to marry him.

The deceased has been identified as Thobekani Masuku (21).
Matabeleland North acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Mandlenkosi Ndlovu said the incident occurred after Masuku rejected Ncube’s marriage proposal. Ncube had divorced his wife with the intention of marrying Masuku.

It is believed that Masuku was pregnant at the time with Ncube’s child and at the time of the incident they were on their way to the clinic.

According to police, the deceased was married to another man who is employed in South Africa and when he was due back, she tried to cut ties with Ncube who was outraged by the rejection of his proposal.

“An outraged Ncube then struck the unsuspecting Masuku several times on the head and neck with an axe, which he had been carrying on their way to the clinic. Masuku died on the spot and Ncube is still at large,” said Ass Insp Ndlovu.

A relative of the deceased said she was unhappy with the turn of events as she had warned Masuku against cheating on her husband.

She also said the police needed to do something about the deaths caused by axing as a lot of people in the area were being axed to death.

“The tool is used to cut trees and clear land but it seems of late it has become a weapon to kill people with, the situation is very sad,” she said.
