A WOMAN from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo yesterday appeared in court facing an assault charge after she beat up her husband’s lover at her workplace.
Sithandazile Dungeni, 36, pleaded guilty to assaulting Lethukuthula Mpofu before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure.
Prosecuting, Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court that on April 29, 2016, Dungeni went to Mpofu’s workplace in the Bulawayo Central Business District and asked to speak to her.
“During the discussion Dungeni accused Mpofu of having a love affair with her husband. Mpofu denied the allegations and this infuriated Dungeni who assaulted the complainant with bare hands all over the body several times,” said Dlodlo.
“The complainant fell down and was rescued by colleagues from further assault.
“She sustained some injuries and a medical report was obtained.”
In mitigation, Dungeni apologised to the court for her actions. She also said she was a mother of two minor children.
“I’m sorry for beating her. I was angry because of the way she responded when I tried to talk to her about my husband. I hit her against the generator and I’m sure that’s what caused the injuries,” Dungeni said.
“I realised what I had done was wrong so I took her to hospital and paid for all the expenses.”
Mashavakure fined Dungeni $50 saying she was a first offender and had shown remorse.
She said Dungeni should have found other means of handling the matter such as engaging other people to iron out their problem rather than resorting to violence.
“The court finds you guilty as charged and you’re ordered to pay a $50 fine immediately. Failure to do so attracts a jail term of 15 days,” ruled Mashavakure.
