Woman demands $20 vegetables for 3-month tot

A BULAWAYO woman shocked a magistrate when she presented a maintenance claim of $20 for vegetables on a grocery list meant for her three-month-old baby. Primrose Ndlovu of Magwegwe suburb demanded $118 for her child with Thabani Phiri, a security guard.

In justifying her use of the $118, she allocated $20 for vegetables for the three-month-old baby. “Pardon me your worship,” she told magistrate Adelaide Mbeure who looked aghast, “I made a mistake. I thought I’d written something else,” said Ndlovu.

Mbeure had bumped into the vegetable item as she was going through Ndlovu’s baby grocery list. “I’m seeing groceries for the child, will the child be eating all that?” asked Mbeure.

Mbeure scratched the item from Ndlovu’s list and granted her $92 for the child in default as Phiri was absent.

“In coming up with the order, the court considered that applicant states that respondent is gainfully employed getting $350 a month. She states that he has no wife and other children. It’s the court’s view that $92 will be appropriate,” said Mbeure.
