A WOMAN yesterday demanded half of her lover’s salary for the upkeep of her two-year-old daughter. Catherine Mugadza dragged Itayi Siyapi, her lover to the Maintenance Court claiming $222 monthly. “I want $222 for my child. If he can’t afford this amount I better get half of his salary,” she said. Siyapi told the court that he was a salesman in Masvingo and realising about $360 per month.

He said he could not afford the amount claimed by Mugadza.

“I offer $100 because I’m only employed as a salesman. The amount that she’s claiming is too high. I’ve got my expenses as well. I pay rentals and buy food for myself. I also have transport costs,” he said.

Magistrate Mashavakure told Mugadza and Siyapi that it was both their responsibility to support their child and not rely on one person.

Mashavakure ordered Siyapi to pay $100 towards the upkeep of his daughter with effect from February 29, 2016.
