Woman dies in veld fire

A 74-year-old Kadoma woman who was going to her garden was burnt beyond recognition in a veld fire.Mrs Caritus Muchatibaya was burnt by a fire that started from the grazing lands at Silverstar Village 2 Turf in Kadoma.Mashonaland West police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the tragedy.

Villagers initially managed to put out the fire but it later re-ignited near Mrs Muchatibaya’s garden.”I confirm a sad incident in which 74-year-old Caritus Muchatibaya was burnt beyond recognition by a veld fire at Silverstar Village 2 Turf, Kadoma,” said Inspector Kohwera.

“When she went to her garden, a sudden wave of the fire consumed her.”Other villagers rushed to try and assist her but could not save her.

He said villagers should have fire committees with trained people in place.Inspector Kohwera said those who start veld fires will face the full wrath of the law.
