Woman drags neighbour to court

A WOMAN from Warren Park suburb yesterday approached the Harare Civil Court seeking a peace order against her neighbour who tried to drill a hole in the wall between their properties in order to fetch water.

Ms Mitchel Chari told Magistrate Sharon Mashavira that her neighbour Takunda Makate was disturbing her peace by assaulting and shouting obscenities at her every time they met.

“I stay in Warren Park where there is a shortage of water. Takunda wanted to drill the wall at our house so that they could fetch water early since we have a borehole at our house. I stopped them from drilling and fetching water at my house. That is when they started to threaten me. I am now afraid of walking in the neighbourhood alone.

“Every time I take a walk, he harasses, torments, threatens, insults, assaults, stalks, and humiliates me in front of people. He even told people that he is going to send a gang to kill me. The harassment is very violent and he has caused malicious damage at our gate when he wants to fetch water. If this honourable court delays in giving me a remedy, I will continue to suffer irreparable harm. I want the court to stop him from coming to my place of residence because he is very violent,” Ms Chari said.

Makate denied the allegations saying that he visited their house because he was in need of water and never insulted or assaulted her. “I assumed that as neighbours we share and that is why I wanted to drill a hole on the durawall,” he said.

Magistrate Mashavire granted Ms Chari a peace order and ordered Makate not to approach the former’s yard and to maintain peace with her at all times.
