An Epworth woman gave birth in a blair toilet before dumping the infant inside the pit on Monday; the child was recovered alive but died on the way to hospital.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tedius Chibanda appealed to anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the mother to report to any police station.
“We received a report following an unknown woman who gave birth in a Blair toilet belonging to Ms Esnath Kazembe (24) of Makomo Extension Epworth after she was permitted to relieve herself in the toilet after complaining of a running stomach.
Ms Kazembe later went to the toilet where she heard a baby crying, but she could not locate the woman.
She called her neighbours who helped her to search for the baby and retrieved from the blair toilet pit. The baby died on her way to the hospital.
