A HARARE man dragged his wife to the civil court for redress after she scalded him with oil.
Takudzwa Mutepe said Yvonne Makanha poured hot oil on him on May 3 after he discovered her infidelity.
“l reprimanded her after l discovered that she was having an affair with another man. l thought it was over between them, but she told her relatives that l had insulted her mother,” Mutepe said.
He said his wife’s relatives assaulted him saying he had no right to reprimand her.
Mutepe claimed that his wife threw bricks at him in public while declaring that he would never make her change.
“It hurts that the woman l married in January is already planning to kill me with her relatives so that she can take my property,” he said.
He pleaded with the court for help, stating that he was now living in fear since his in-laws were involved and were threatening him with death.
Mutepe claimed that, some of the household property which he bought was damaged by his wife.
He even begged his wife before the court to let him move out of the house.
“l do not want them to kill me since l haven’t done anything wrong, they can take everything except my life, l know they are the ones who advise their daughter to pour hot oil on me,” said a tearful Mutepe.
He highlighted an incident where he came back from work, and four men blocked his way and took his documents, including his national identity card, driver’s license, cellphone and warned him not to monitor his wife’s movements.
He said that when he got home, he asked his wife about the incident and she ran to her relatives and lied that he had beaten her.
Mutepe accused his in-laws of sending people to disturb him and his superiors at his workplace.
Makanha disputed the allegations, claiming that she was the victim.
“l do not know what he is saying, this man beats me and insults my parents and he is too controlling,” Makanha said.
Presiding magistrate, Ms Meenal Naratom granted Mutepe the protection order and warned Makanha to stop physically and emotionally abusing her husband.
