A 43-year-old woman from North End suburb in Bulawayo fell prey to a fraudster who purported to register her daughter for the November Cambridge examinations at a local private college.
The alleged fraudster reportedly defrauded the woman of US$250 after producing a fake statement of entry.
Solomon Sakala (39) of 525 Mahatshula North appeared at the Bulawayo Magistrates Courts before Ms Nomagugu Maphosa facing a charge of fraud as defined in section 136 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform )Act Chapter 9:23.
He was remanded in custody for continuation of trial. According to the State case as presented by prosecutor, Mrs Ashley Dube, on 27 July 2023, Sakala approached Vaina Kufa and told her that he could assist her with the registration of her daughter for the Cambridge November examination at a local college.
The complainant then gave Sakala US$250 for the registration and later on he came back with a receipt as proof of payment.
On 28 September the accused is alleged to have brought a statement of entry to the complainant who upon analysing it, discovered that it was fake and reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Sakala.
