A NJUBE woman yesterday rejected a $30 a month maintenance money the magistrate ordered her estranged husband to pay saying the money was too little. Vongai Masaite said the $30 Evelyn Mashavakure ordered her estranged husband Tawanda Bhunu to pay was an insult and said she would rather not be paid the money.
Mashavakure however, said in settling for the $30 a month, she had taken into account that Bhunu, employed as security guard, was earning $180 a month.
She said from the $180 Bhunu was buying groceries for Masaite and their two-year-old child every month and was also paying rentals.
Masaite had applied for $73 per month.
“This money is too little. I won’t take it, it’s better that he doesn’t pay than to pay $30,” said Masaite.
Mashavakure advised Masaite to approach the High Court if she was not happy with the court’s decision.
Bhunu said Masaite at times spent as much as $100 a month on groceries forcing him to borrow to meet other pressing needs.
