A 53-YEAR-OLD woman has been remanded in custody after appearing before a Mutare magistrate on charges of aggravated indecent assault on her mentally challenged stepson.
The woman hails from Zhawari village under Chief Marange.
She appeared before magistrate Mrs Pathekile Msipha facing charges under Section 66 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (Chapter 9:23).
The matter has been postponed to August 21 for trial.
Prosecutor, Ms Nomathemba Sayi said the alleged offence occurred on three separate occasions in 2025.
“On one occasion, while alone at home with the complainant, she instructed him to remove his trousers and shaved his pubic hair before engaging in sexual intercourse with him under blankets,” said Ms Sayi.
She further alleged that the accused person repeated the act twice in the bush while fetching firewood with the complainant.
The abuse was reportedly exposed after locals witnessed the pair, and alerted the complainant’s aunt.
Upon questioning, the complainant disclosed the abuse, which was then reported to the police by his biological mother.
A medical examination was conducted, and the results are expected to be presented during the trial.
