A 38-YEAR-OLD domestic worker from Tsholotsho was left shaken after she was allegedly robbed at knife – point  while walking home from work along the Sontamba–Nemane gravel road last Friday.

Heather Moyo, of Nthoyiwa Line in Nemane under Chief Mswigana, was heading home around 5PM on 6 February when she was ambushed in a bushy area near Magodola Line.

Police have since identified the suspect as Melinkosi Ncube, an adult male from Menzi Line, Magodola area, also under Chief Mswigana. He is facing a charge of robbery as defined in Section 126 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].

It is alleged that the suspect approached Moyo from behind, grabbed her by the shoulder and produced a large knife while demanding cash.

“The accused person force-marched the complainant into nearby bushes while threatening to stab her if she did not hand over money,” said Matabeleland North police spokesperson, Inspector Glory Banda.

Fearing for her life, Moyo surrendered her green Hisense cellphone, which had ZAR 500 hidden inside its cover.

The suspect allegedly fled from the scene after ordering her to leave. The total value of property stolen is estimated at ZAR 2 000 and nothing has been recovered so far. The accused person is reportedly still at large.

Inspector Banda urged members of the public not to resist when confronted by armed robbers.

“We discourage citizens from fighting armed robbers as this may endanger their lives. It is safer to comply and report the matter to the police immediately,” he said.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect to report at any nearest police station.

Investigations are underway
