Woman sentenced to 14 months in prison for possession of dagga

A WOMAN was sentenced to 14 months in prison by a Harare Magistrates’ Court on the charge of unlawful possession of drugs.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said Prudence Chinhoi from Glenview in Harare was approached by police officers who posed as potential buyers of dagga and illegal cough syrup after a tip-off on 10 June 2023.

They arrested her and recovered 50 Adco-salterpyn cough syrup bottles and a plastic bag containing 980 grams of loose dagga.

“She was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment of which 6 months were suspended. She will serve 8 months effectively,” reads the statement.
