NEWLY-elected Zanu PF councillor for Ward 20 in Zengeza East Cde Leah Chidamba has pledged to steer development in the community through implementing the Second Republic’s development policies.
The Second Republic has implemented various programmes that empower communities.
Speaking during her victory celebrations in Chitungwiza yesterday, Cde Chidamba said she will work hard to ensure the attainment of an upper middle economy by 2030.
“Guided by the policies of the ruling party and its visionary leader, our target is to attain five million votes. Plans are underway to run development projects in this community. We have no doubt that we can do it as we are guided by the policies of or President,” she said.
Cde Chidamba said women should participate more in politics and take leadership positions.
“It is time for us women to assume leadership positions and participate in developmental programmes in the communities,” she said.
She urged the youths to shun dangerous drugs.
“We want to focus mainly on the youths so that we address the issue of drug and substance abuse. As we are celebrating our victory, law enforcement agencies and councillors should address the effects of drugs. We cannot continue witnessing disastrous effects of these drugs,” she said.
She said plans are underway to make sure that youths embark on meaningful projects for empowerment.
Women in her ward have benefited from programmes like first aid training, soap making and many others.
Ward 20 Women’s League chairperson Cde Beaula Dzirunye said the victory was a result of hard work.
“We should also work hard to protect our seat. We do not want to lose it. It must remain a ZANU PF seat,” she said.
Cde Chidamba urged other councillors to work on roads rehabilitation and drilling of boreholes to improve the transport system and provision of safe water to all.
