Women’s premier league ignites!

THE Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) has exploded into life and the tempo isn’t slowing down.

With two weeks of action already dishing out goals galore, drama and surprise contenders, the league roars into its third weekend with reigning champions, Correctional Queens, hell-bent on tightening their grip at the top. Their next assignment? A gritty Cranborne Royals side at One Commando Ground this Saturday.

Correctional Queens are in ruthless mood. They humiliated Red Buffalo Royals 10-1 last weekend, a brutal display of firepower that left the rest of the league shaken.

“We’re here to defend our crown with pride,” said a club official. “No one’s walking past us without a fight.”

But the chasing pack isn’t watching idly.

Second-placed Platinum Royals, still basking in their dominant 3-0 demolition of Highlanders Royals, are fired up ahead of their Sunday showdown with struggling Black Mambas Queens at Mandava Stadium.

“We’ve reached second place on the log for the first time — and we’re not letting go,” declared Platinum Royals spokesperson, Blessed Teddy Nsingo.

“Last week’s victory added to our growing momentum. We’re working hard, staying consistent and aiming to make history.”

Mpopoma Sports Academy (Mposa, have quietly emerged as dark horses after a dream debut campaign.

Two matches, two wins including scalps over Highlanders and Black Mambas have catapulted them into the early title conversation.

On Saturday, they host bottom-placed Red Buffalo Royals at Bulawayo Chiefs Village, where they’ll be eyeing another three points.

“Playing at home, we feed off the crowd’s energy,” said a Mposa coach. “This team’s hungry and fearless.”

Meanwhile, Chapungu Queens, flying high after a commanding 5-0 debut win, will lock horns with Harare City Queens, who are looking to bounce back from a mixed start.

The showdown at Manyame Sports Club could be one of the weekend’s most evenly matched contests.

Elsewhere, the unbeaten Faith Drive Academy visit Sheasham Gweru Queens, while Black Rhinos Queens and Conduit Soccer Academy both seek redemption in their clash at The Heart Stadium.

For some teams, it’s about building on early momentum. For others, it’s already a battle for survival. But one thing is certain, the 2025 ZWPSL season has already delivered a roller-coaster of emotions, and we’ve only just hit Week Three.
