Women’s soccer Super League dates set

“According to our plans the league will kick off on 2 June unless something beyond our control delays the start of the league. This coming Thursday we will have our stakeholders meeting where all the other details will be discussed and the league fixtures will be unveiled,” ZNWSL boss Mavis Gumbo said this yesterday.

Marange Resources, the Women’s Super League sponsors, will unveil the sponsorship package at the meeting that is expected to be attended by the 10 teams’ representatives.

Time will still be on the league’s side as there will only need 18 weeks to finish the league.

Meanwhile, New Orleans director Khanyiso Bhebhe said they were ready for the league. “We are ready to play in the league and this season we want to do better than last season,” he said.

He said the team had new players and singled out Yolanda Tshuma, a 14-year-old striker from Phakamani High School in Plumtree, Sehliselwe Nyoni, a right link, Petronella Phiri, a striker and midfielder Happiness Gumbo who graduated from the junior ranks. Inline Academy owner Trust Kwembeya said they were also ready as they had finalised their squad.

“We have finalised our squad and we are ready for the league to start,” he said.
