Vice President Joice Mujuru has called for the translation of the country’s milestone achievements in education into meaningful growth and development.
In a speech read on her behalf by the permanent secretary in her office Dr Judith Kateera at Eiffel Flats Primary School prize giving day ceremony yesterday, VP Mujuru said the country needed to work hard to maintain the status of being ranked the most educated country in Africa. VP Mujuru, who is also the patron of the school, said parents should invest in the education of their children, especially girls whom she said if not empowered were vulnerable to abuse.
Dr Kateera planted a tree at the school on behalf of VP Mujuru before visiting a shrine where Chegutu West House of Assembly member Cde Dexter Nduna’s children who died in a horrific road accident are buried. Cde Nduna, who is also a board member at the school, said the school where his children used to learn remained dear to him and he would continue to assist. He has built a hostel named after his late children. Zimplats donated US$20 000 .
