WORKERS from Finmas Business Consultancy and Rise and Shine Cleaning Services on Friday embarked on a clean-up exercise along Jason Moyo Street between 5th Avenue and 9th Avenue in Bulawayo to mark this month’s National Clean-up Day.
The two companies conducted the clean-up as part of their corporate social responsibility in response to calls by Zanu-PF’s second secretary Cde Kembo Mohadi for businesses to adopt and clean zones in areas they operate from.
President Mnangagwa in 2018 declared the first Friday of each calendar month a National Clean-up Day as part of Government’s efforts to solve the country’s waste management challenges.
On this day, the public is urged to come together and clean their surroundings, be it workplaces, schools, religious, recreational and residential premises.
Mr Shepard Masvanhise, managing director of Finmas Business Consultancy, and Rise and Shine Cleaning Services, said the National Clean-up Day helps citizens spread awareness of the importance of cleanliness countrywide.
He said cleaning one’s workplace and surrounding areas helps the country to maintain sustainable environment management and waste disposal systems.
“There are diseases lurking in undesignated dumpsites all around the city centre, so if we do not clean where we work, we are risking our health,” said Mr Masvanhise.
He said it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that the streets are kept clean by disposing litter into rubbish bins dotted all over the city centre.
Finmas Business Consultancy provides accounting services, while Rise and Shine Cleaning Services provides commercial cleaning services and also offers Covid-19 disinfection, fumigation, pest control, events and carpet cleaning.
A 2011 study by the Institute of Environmental Studies at the University of Zimbabwe showed that the country generates 1,65 million tonnes of waste per year. – @michieroxy
